Deadline fast approaching for available federal funds to ensure the active participation of disabled community members in local events

KELOWNA - Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament for Kelowna-Lake Country would like to remind local non-profit organizations that the deadline for proposals for funding under the Social Development Partnerships Program – Disability – Accommodation Projects is February 8, 2010 at 9 pm Eastern Standard Time. Contribution funding of up to $20,000 is available to non-profit organizations holding an event between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011 for projects that enable people with disabilities to fully participate by ensuring accessibility. Accommodation projects could include items such as sign-language interpretation, real-time captioning, readers and scribes, support persons and interveners. The Program supports innovative solutions to remove barriers through improved access to programs and services, and encourages a wide range of community-based initiatives that provide effective approaches to addressing social issues and barriers that people with disabilities face. |
